The 1879 Wimbledon Championship was a tennis tournament which took place at the All England Club, It was the third time the championship had been held with the first taking place in 1877.[2] The entry for the 1879 all comers' tournament was 45, of whom 36 were newcomers.[2] The all comers' final was watched by 1100 spectators.[2]
